Common salary structure in Bangladesh
Most private employers split gross salary into components. A widely used split is:
- Basic — 60% of gross
- House rent — 30% (often 50% of basic)
- Medical — 5%
- Conveyance — 5%
Your company policy may differ — every percentage here is editable.
Overtime under the Bangladesh Labour Act
Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary rate of basic wage. Many employers use hourly basic = Basic ÷ 208 (26 working days × 8 hours), so overtime per hour = Basic ÷ 208 × 2.
Deductions
- Absence — usually (Basic ÷ 30) per unauthorised absent day, or gross ÷ 30 by company policy.
- Advance / loan recovery and provident fund contribution.
- Income tax (TDS) — the yearly estimated tax divided by 12. Use our income tax calculator to work it out.
Wages must be paid within seven working days after the end of the wage period. Keep a signed copy of each salary sheet for your records.
