Which barcode type should I use?
- Code 128 — best for your own shop codes (SKUs). Letters and numbers, compact, and every scanner reads it.
- EAN-13 — the 13-digit retail standard. If you sell through superstores (Shwapno, Agora, Meena Bazar), they usually ask for a GS1-registered EAN from GS1 Bangladesh.
- EAN-8 — a shorter EAN for small packs (lipstick, sachets) where EAN-13 won't fit.
- UPC-A — the 12-digit North American standard; only needed for export.
- ITF-14 — printed on outer cartons for warehouse and distributor scanning.
- QR code — for links, product information or payment details, not for checkout scanning.
Printing tips
- Print at 100% scale (no "fit to page") so bars keep their width.
- Keep the white quiet zone on both sides of the barcode.
- Half-used A4 sticker sheet? Set Start at label no. to the first empty sticker so nothing is wasted.
- For thermal printers (Xprinter, Zebra, TSC), choose the matching label size and set the printer's paper size to the same size.
Your POS needs to know each code: when you add products in POS software you can scan or auto-generate the code and print labels straight from stock.
