How your electricity bill is calculated
All distributors — DESCO, DPDC, BPDB, NESCO, WZPDCO and Palli Bidyut — use the same retail tariff set by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC). The tariff below is effective from the June 2026 billing month.
Residential (LT-A) — slab rates per unit
- Lifeline, 0–50 units (whole month ≤ 50): ৳5.32
- 1–75 units: ৳6.18
- 76–200: ৳8.50
- 201–300: ৳9.10
- 301–400: ৳9.62
- 401–600: ৳15.01
- Above 600: ৳17.35
Slabs are telescopic: the first 75 units are charged at the first rate, the next 125 at the second, and so on. Notice the jump after 400 units — keeping usage under 400 saves a lot.
Commercial and small industry
Shops and offices (LT-E) pay ৳15.36 flat, or ৳13.82 off-peak and ৳18.43 during peak hours (5 pm–11 pm) on a time-of-use meter. Small industry (LT-C1) pays ৳12.73 flat, ৳11.45 off-peak and ৳15.27 peak.
Charges on top of energy
- Demand charge — per kW of sanctioned load each month (৳42/kW for homes).
- Meter rent — usually ৳40 for a single-phase meter.
- VAT — 5% on the total.
On a prepaid meter the demand charge and meter rent are taken from the first recharge each month, which is why the first recharge gives fewer units.
